TRIATHLON’S

 

CONSTITUTION

 

INTRODUCTION

1.     The RAF Triathlon Association (RAF Tri) exists to encourage and coordinate the participation in all aspects of triathlon and related multi-sport events. The Association will be affiliated to the British Triathlon Association the official governing body for triathlon in the United Kingdom.

AIMS

2.       The primary aims of the Association shall be to: promote all types of triathlon at every level within the RAF, Auxiliaries and Reserves; encourage physical fitness and healthy living among all men and women serving throughout the RAF, Auxiliaries and Reserves; provide opportunity for members to take part in training and coaching in the 3 disciplines of swimming, cycling and running and to enable all members to take part in triathlon, duathlon and other multi-sports events.

3.     In order to attain the primary aims the secondary objectives of RAF Tri shall be:

a.     To raise the profile of triathlon, duathlon and other multi-sport events in the RAF.

b.     To raise the standard of competition and level of participation by individual and teams in the RAF.

                    c.     To select RAF teams for the Inter-Services and other representative                     events.

d.      To recruit, develop and increase membership and to improve the training of talent within the Association.

e.      To provide effective leadership and support to develop the sport.

f.       To foster contact with other like-minded individuals and organisations both in the UK and overseas.

g.       Encourage and produce qualified coaches from the membership.

OFFICIALS AND COMMITTEE

4. The Executive Committee is empowered to make policy on the conduct of the Association’s activities. The Committee shall undertake the organisation and administration of the RAF Sprint Distance Championships, Inter-Services Championships* and training weekends and multi-sports events held on MOD land. The Executive Committee must be bound by any collective decision it makes. The composition of the Executive Committee will be as follows:

a.   The Chairman.

b.   The Honorary Secretary.

c.   The Treasurer.

d.   The Coaching and Development Officer.

e.    The Race Director.

f.    The Men's Team Manager.

g.    The Ladies' Team Manager.

h.    The Publicity Manager

i.     The Membership Secretary.

j.     The Expedition Member.

k.    The Kit Manager

l.      The Editor of  RAF Tri’s Newsletter ‘Triangles’.

m.     The Webmaster.

5.        The Committee shall be confirmed in their appointments annually at the AGM. The President and Chairman are appointed by the RAF Sports Board on the advice of the outgoing incumbent.

6.         A meeting of the Executive Committee is valid only if either the Chairman or Secretary is present and if at least 4 of its members are present.

GENERAL RULES

7. Association rules and laws are to be kept to a minimum and are to be commensurate with the rules and laws of the British Triathlon Association. Association rules are as follows:

a.      All championship races and other events within the RAF and on MOD land are to be conducted in accordance with the current laws and rules of the British Triathlon Association (as published in that Association’s official handbook).

b.       The rules concerning eligibility are in accordance with those laid down by the RAF Sports Board.

c.        Membership of the Association will be by application to the Membership Secretary and will remain valid for 12 months thereafter..

d.        Subscription rates will be determined and approved by the AGM.

e.         The Committee is empowered to refuse an application for membership under exceptional circumstances.

f.          All RAF Tri Members have equal voting rights at the AGM or at any Extraordinary General Meetings (EGM) called.

g.          In the event of the vote on a motion being tied then the Chairman shall have the casting vote.

h.           Should the Committee or AGM adopt a motion that is objected to by the Chairman, then the Chairman has the right to veto the motion after which he/she is to immediately consult the President, and/or the RAF Sports Board, on the way forward.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

8.      The Association’s AGM is open to all members and must be held once per calendar year on a date to be decided by the Executive Committee (usually Feb). The AGM must be publicised at least one month in advance and must conduct the following business as a minimum.

a.      The Chairman’s Report on RAF Tri’s activities during the previous year.

b.       The Treasurer’s Report of RAF Tri’s accounts and assets.

c.        The Chairman will seek a nominee to attend the AGM of the British Triathlon Association.

CHANGES TO THE CONSTITUTION

9.       Changes to the Constitution may be proposed at any time but must be voted upon at the next AGM or EGM prior to incorporation.
