16 Nov 07 - Sponsorship by
RAFTri is extremely pleased to announce a new sponsorship partnership with Towergate Wilsons for the 2008 Season. TW have agreed to sponsor the Tri-a-Tri series and next year’s Interservices. This is great news for members as it swells our budget next year considerably.
The grass roots element of the Association appeals to TW; it won’t surprise you that they are trying to sell more insurance in the Military. Therefore in return for the money each of us should help TW get the message out there. There are incentives built into our deal; TW will offer tailored and discounted insurance to every member. This will make them extremely competitive against other insurance you may currently hold. So as a first step, please consider TW when you come to renew any of your insurance policies (kit, home, holiday, car, life, injury…..). Even if your policy is not due for renewal yet, get a quote anyway; you may find that it pays you to cancel out of your existing policy and start afresh. If you do sign up with TW, let the Sec know. We will be trying to keep a track of take-up to convince them to sign a deal longer than one year. Anything we can do to help their business flourish, we will benefit directly from. Bottom-line…. we need to drive the partnership.
Sep 07 - Race Entries: Please check the race entry fee
refund form and make your claim via Flt Lt Saggers (see contacts)
giving postal address and cheque payee details together with any
amendments. Please note there may be corrections necessary to
the list and that claims can only be met through this route when
the correct postal information has been received.
STOP PRESS - The
jury would appear to be out with regard to the result of the team
competition, we may have beaten the Army after all ... news to
be confirmed. The confusion has been caused by a Navy competitor
being missed from the original set of results, if he is included
we do indeed win the event!
INTER-SERVICES LONG DISTANCE CHAMPS - SOME SUPER PERFORMANCES
AT THE LAST MAJOR EVENT OF THE YEAR The Vitruvian hosted
both the Interservices Champs and the BTF National Long Distance

overall but the Army just took the team event. Kelda Spratt was
winner of her age group and 12th female overall. Results and race
report.

5th spot in her age group only 4 mins off the gold medal winner.
Dale Grassby came in 12th in his age group. Congratulations to
both. See here for Bev's race report.

21 July 07 - Kit Manager:
I have placed an order with Spuik for more kit this week, however
there will be approximately a 12 week wait for this as the factory
has recently been moved to new premises. I have ordered 40 tri suits
in various sizes and some 2 piece kit in bigger sizes. Please don't
send any requests for tri suits until I let you know that the stock
is on its way from the manufacturer. All orders for 2 piece kit
except for xxl is welcome.
Thanks Daz Sharpe

Jul 07 - Website Update. There has been some discussion as to what should be included on the website with regards racing results. As RAFTri continues to grow there are an increasing number of members competing which is excellent to see. Unfortunately it means that it becomes unfeasible for the webmaster to trawl events for results. As a result it becomes an individual responsibility if members wish their achievements to be publicised...
- Forum Racing Results thread: This is intended for anyone to publish both their own and the results of others. Feel free to add details and links as you see fit, but please do so within the existing thread - otherwise the forum will become far harder to navigate through.
- Email the webmaster: If you have specific info concerning races shown in the Racing section, or have additional fixtures then email the webmaster directly. Up to this point I have monitored forum traffic but with over 50 messages posted per day, and a site approaching 500 pages that is no longer feasible.
If anyone has any feedback then feel free to contact the webmaster and/or the committee. It is your association and only with input will the desired product be achieved. Thanks.

29 Jan 07 - Inter Services Dates: Dates
for this year's Inter-Service Duathlon and Triathlon Championships
have been revealed by the Army. Put the dates in your diaries
now.
- IS Duathlon - 18 Apr 07 at Thorney Island
(Portsmouth)
- IS Triathlon - 25 Jul 07 venue TBN
The Duathlon will almost certainly be 5km
run/20km bike/5km run format. There will be no formal selection
process and the manager will select the Mens' Elite and Vets'
Teams. Those not selected can still race though, as guests.
Those wishing to race at the Duathlon should contact the Mens'
Team Manager, John Crewe (JC), by work email (MRMdepth-TLS
OC) or on 95951 5315.
Selection for the IS Triathlon will, as
usual, be made at the Dambuster Olympic Distance Triathlon
on 23 Jun 07 at Rutland Water. This year there are 800 places
available in the race and so far 307 have been taken. It's
still advisable to enter this ASAP as the places will go quickly
with the race being a World Champs Qualifier. Remember, you
get your race and travel costs for the Dambuster refunded
through RAF Triathlon.
Thanks
JC

17 Jan 07 - Website Issues.
After what seems like an age the website is finally back online.
For anyone whom has been inconvenienced may I [WM] apologise
but hopefully things are now resolved. For anyone interested,
details behind the problems are shown below.
When the site was setup 4 years ago, the domain name (raftri.org.uk)
was purchased by the site creator. The renewal for this lapsed
before Christmas and since he was still the registered owner,
the first knowledge of this I [WM] had was a screen asking
if I would like to buy the domain! How kind, the opportunity
to buy our own site.
To identify the above took a fair time but we eventually
got the domain transfered to our ownership, renewed, and then
re-configured to 'point' to the correct place on the web again
where our site is hosted. More time...
Ultimately it has been a long drawn out process but those
involved have been very helpful:
The previous owner of the domain
Our web-hosting company, Fasthosts. Their support is excellent
and I would recommend them to anyone contemplating designing
a site.
Thanks for your patience and now we're back online, let the
traffic re-commence!
