Details for
the Inter-Service Duathlon Champs at Newcastle-upon-Tyne have
now been released and course details are above.
We do have the core of a good men's team available
to race, but due to the clash with the Lanzarote tour, we
have still not filled all the places available to us (12 elite,
6 over-35s
, guests),
so you can still race. This will be a great opportunity
for you to do an early season race and to represent the RAF
at a major event. Don't be fazed by the standard required
- this event is incorporated into the Army Duathlon Champs,
so there will be racers of all standards taking part.
There will be no cost to you, other than a day away from work!
If you want to race or find out more details, please contact
me (John Crewe) on 95771-8056 or at mensteammanager raftri.org.uk,
no later than 25 March.

13 Jan 05 - RAF Champs.
IMPORTANT - Entry Forms for the Dambuster, which
as you know is the RAF Inter-Service Selection Event and Standard
Distance Champs at Rutland Water, are now available from
www.pacesetterevents.com or
www.onestepbeyond.org.uk. With this now being a worlds
qualifier and Grand Prix event, entries are going pretty quickly
- I know this as I've spoken to the organisers and at the
current rate they expect it to be full within a fairly short
period of time. So get cracking and make sure you're in.
10 Jan 05 - 2004 Race Fees.
As you know, each year depending
on funding, every RAFTA member is given back a proportion
of their race fees from the preceding year. Your attendance
has been captured and the fees will be paid back on this basis.
However, it is crucial that you check the linked document
HERE to ensure that
we haven't missed anyone or any of your races. This
is the same list originally published on this website on 16
Sep 04. The final closing date for amendments is 31
Jan 05. Errors or omissions should be sent to Jim
McFarlane at deputymembership raftri.org.uk. Get the
word out to those members who don't look at the website very
often!
10 Jan 05 - 2005 Tour to La Santa, Lanzarotte.
A number of people
have dropped out of the tour due to work and family pressures.
If you would like to go, it may not be too late! The
total cost is £365 (half board) for 10 days and has to be
paid by the end of this month. This is of course a heavily
subidised price already but if we get sponsorship it may come
down a little more. You must be a military member of
RAFTA and a member of the RAF Sports Lottery to come.
The dates are 14 Apr 05 - 24 Apr 05. Contact Mark Saggers
for more info at saggs raftri.org.uk.
10 Jan 05 - Sponsorship.
We hope to hear early next week.
6 Jan 05 - Website Problems.
Sorry about the problems
with the website over the last few days. We are trying
to get used to the new webhost; hopefully it is now fixed.
4 Jan 05 - AGM. The
2005 RAFTA AGM will be at RAF Cosford on Saturday 5 Feb 05
at 1700 hrs. This will be part of a training weekend
which will run from 1200hrs on 4 Feb 05 to 1200hrs on 6 Feb
05. Please forward accommodation requirements to Chris
Sturgess on eventscoord raftri.org.uk. Further details
to follow.
4 Jan 05 - RAFTA Tour 2005 Info and
Polo Shirts.
News from Mark
Saggers
Arrangements
for the 2005 Tour are progressing nicely. One aspect not mentioned
previously is a 2005 Tour Polo Shirt. When we went to Guernsey
last September we were all decked out in a specific tour polo
shirt. We looked the best team there and everyone knew who
we were (this could be good or bad!). How do people feel about
getting a Lanzarote 2005 tour Polo? I know that most people
have RAFTA Polos and a drawer full of race t-shirts, hence
another one may not be needed. We would have to self fund
this and I envisage about £14 per shirt. Let me know your
thoughts via the MessageBoard or e-mail saggs raftri.org.uk.
Also, remember I that I need full payment by the end of the
first week of Feb 05. The most up to date total cost that
I have at the moment is £365. I am awaiting the results of
the sponsorship bid before notifying a final cost. Please
be aware of a few hidden costs. Bike carriage is £30. This
is payable to the airline direct and I will let you know what
the arrangements are for this. We are no longer able to claim
travel for sports tours, therefore, individuals will have
to meet at Birmingham Airport prior to departure. This may
mean car park fees for those who cannot get a drop off. Drop
me a line if you have any questions. Happy training.
