28 Sep 05 - Autumn Training Weekend 12-13 Nov at RAF Cosford

It is already looking like we are going to get a great attendance at the Autumn Training Weekend.  The fun starts at 0930 at the Pavilion.  If you would like to come, all you need to do is drop a line to Brad on brad raftri.org.uk with your name, service no. and accom requirements.  We are hoping to arrange food on Sat night for which there may be a nominal fee payable on the day.  The exact programme of events will be issued nearer the time but we are still hoping to get a visiting speaker.  This weekend is especially suitable for anyone who fancies trying a triathlon for the first time next year.

Committee members please note that there will be a meeting early Sat evening.  Sec will issue Agenda soon.  After the meeting, we'll probably all head down for a curry.

  9 Aug 05 - National Relays.

My thanks to Mark Saggers for the following write up on the National Relays.

We had 3 teams:

The morning event was for mixed and Vet teams. We had a mixed team: 53rd out of 155 teams. Consisted of Debs Pratley, Adam Barton (stand in for Vicky Webb), Ian Hall, Brett Edgeworth. A good result for this team. Vicky had to withdraw at late notice so we grabbed a 'ringer' from a civilian tri club! Well done to Debs for getting this team together, even though she is based in Germany!

The afternoon event saw 94 teams compete. We had 2 teams:

Team 1: Ed Headford, Martin Ball, John Crewe, Pete Russell. Finished 17th out of 94 teams. Good performance with Ed Headford exiting the water in 4th place on the first swim leg.

Team 2: Ben Livesey, Neill Gowans, Mark Saggers, Steve Cruttenden. Finished 26th out of 94 teams. Another good performance with what must have been one of the swiftest run times of the day coming from Ben Livesey.  Good to see the RAF Vests at this level and we certainly held our own!

9 Aug 05 - IS Results.  Some of you may have noticed that before I went on leave I reported below the ladies as 3rd and not 2nd.  This was incorrect and has now been changed.  Boy - am  I in trouble!!!!  Has anyone written a race report yet?

29 Jul 05 - IS Results.  The IS results can be found on Stu Steele's website here.

Team Results as follows:

Mens

1st Army
2nd RAF
3rd Navy

Ladies

1st Army
2nd RAF
3rd Navy

The webmaster is currently on leave and mostly away from a computer.  If anyone is willing to write  a short write-up on the IS, he'll publish it next weekend.  Also, we should have the phots by then too.  Well done to the Army for their well deserved win and congrats to the RAF team for their 2nd place in the men's and ladies.

20 Jul 05 - IS Triathlon - RAF Guest Racers

Guest confirmations for the IS Triathlon have been received from Mick Pullin, Neill Gowans, Ian Hall, Phil McNeill, Jonny Briggs, James Waller and Paul Breeze.  Therefore, there are 9 guest places still available for the race.  Please contact John Crewe ASAP if you wish to race as a guest.

5 Jul 05 - More bad news on the kit front.  Sadly, the kit has been very late in arriving.  It has now finally arrived but they have missed off the logo of our main sponsor SIMPLER.  The committee is currently considering what to do.  However, as the kit will take 3 weeks to fix, it would then not be available for the IS.  Therefore, we are probably going to have to deliver it and then try and get iron-on transfers at a later date.  I can only apologise on behalf of the RAFTA committee for the total ineffective way in which Freedom Sport has dealt with this order.  The committee will need to reconsider using them for future orders.  I give you the assurance that if we find another supplier the kit will be designed to match existing kit and therefore not render it obsolete. If anyone can suggest another reliable supplier then please write to me webmaster raftri.org.uk.

4 Jul 05 - So much news, so little time!!

  • Mat Stephenson Qualifies for Kona.  Mat Stephenson finished Ironman Austria in a stunning time of 9hrs 19mins.  He has also qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.  Other RAFTA finishers in this race were Neill Gowans 12,08 and Paul Breeze 12,43.

  • IS Selection Letter here.

  • IS Admin Order  - Admin Order - Course Map (1.8Mb)

  • IMPORTANT - Volunteers required for IS Tallington Lakes 27 Jul 05.  If you would like to help out at the IS this year, please contact Mat Stephenson on eastrep raftri.org.uk, particularly if you are a RAFTA member and not racing.  It'll be a duty day out, food and probably a goodie bag too.
