29 Mar 06 - Race Refunds 05: The race refunds for the 2005 season have been calculated and the cheques from the RAF Sports Board have now been received. All those qualifying will be reimbursed 65.9% of their fees for the approved races last season. I am just about to put the cheques in the post and have a list of addresses taken from the Membership Database. If you think your details may be out of date, please e-mail the Treasurer as soon as possible with your latest address and copy the Membership Secretary so the database can be updated. If you have not received a cheque by 20 Apr 06 and think you should have, please let me know.

Cheers Dave

28 Mar 06 - Ironman Austria Accommodation: Message from Tony Bromovsky who has wonderful accommodation near Klagenfurt,Austria. If you are considering doing IM Austria I would highly recommend it. Also ask Breezy and Neill for their views. Klagenfurt airport 10 minutes away. Race HQ 15 miles away. Ideal for training. The owner and staff there are fantastic. Check out the website. Matt

Dear mathew
We loved having you all last year for the Ironman competition. And of course we wondered if you might like to come back! Everything is rolling along well with the organic farm, the Schnaps cellar and the conversion of an old barn into a livery stable for riding. So this summer we will have riding for the first time. I know you kindly said that you would maybe post our details on the board or ask some colleagues to see if there was any interest to let the holiday flats.
Our website is www.ottmanach.at .My number 07785 991 221.Do call or email if you would like to return this year. Email just reply to this one.
Thanks Mathew and I hope everything is fine with you.Frau ranner sends her regards.
all the best
Tony (Bromovsky)

18 Mar 06 - Grizzley Challenge, Brett Edgeworth: I thought I would try something different this year. Ironman is in July so a nice long run would be a good early season race. I didn't get a place for the London Marathon so a +20 mile run across the South Devon coast in March seemed a good idea. The Grizzley Challenge has 2100 competitors and is one of the hardest runs in Europe. 20 miles split between beach, deep bog, track, field, stream and road, with a 1000m of ascent over a steep undulating course, the race is a true CHALLENGE.

After a week at Club La Santa having trained hard I was tired and used to the warm weather. The +1C temperature was a shock; fully kitted up with long sleeved shirt, ron hills, woolly hat and gillet I took it easy at first and survived to take 152 place in 2 hours 48 mins. First place was taken in 2 hours 12 mins. Any body looking for something different the Axe valley runners, Seaton, Grizzley Challenge might be for you but book early places were all filled before Xmas this year. The shower provided by the Seaton fire service hose was refreshingly freezing and the atmosphere was terrific all the way round.

13 Mar 06 - From the Chairman... Great to hear that 2006 provided yet another superb tour. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go this year, so very jealous! I did eat twice the amount of calories for a week though just to sympathise with you all. Unfortunately my wife refused to cook a choice of 12 dishes and wouldn’t let me follow my meal with 3 desserts, fruit salad and coffee. Oh well, I’ll have to wait for next year. Talking of next year, for those who are not aware, the 2007 Tour is being organised by Ian Hall (ianhall raftri.org.uk), so if you have some good ideas or want to encourage us to do something completely different next year, feed your ideas in through him.

Now its time to concentrate on the year ahead. Make sure you take a good look at the 2006 race programme – be ambitious with the races you pencil in for yourself. We need as many as possible at the Duathlon Interservices – contact mensteammanager raftri.org.uk if would like to join the team. Our sprints this year will be Cranwell, Odiham and Brize Norton. Please encourage as many people as possible to attend from your stations. Why not book a minibus and seek to fill it! You will have authority to use MT. Also, the RAF Standard Distance Championships is filling up fast (Dambuster) so get your application in soon if you haven’t already. This is a very good race to pick for your first Olympic distance triathlon. The race will probably be full by the end of this month so beware.

Top Bods – for you elite guys out there, if you have significant success at any race in 2006 please file a quick report into Frank Whittle at publicity raftri.org.uk and the webmaster raftri.org.uk; it all helps with our sponsorship profile.

Kind regards

Your Chairman

03 Mar 06 - RAF News Article : If anyone was unable to see the article for Matt Stevenson in RAF News, a copy is now available on the website. Excellent result.

28 Feb 06 - Dambuster Entries: As of today we have 22 RAF entries in the Dambuster - excellent. For those yet to commit, get your entry in.

Cheers JC [Excellent indeed - good to hear people want to attend the RAF Champs!]

26 Feb 06 - Team Management: Brtish Triathlon have selected Brad to act as GB Age group Team manager for this years World and European Champs. Plus he has also been asked onto the England Team management for the Home Nations. [Good luck and congrats...]

26 Feb 06 - British Triathlon proposals: There are changes proposed for the structure of British Triathlon which all committee members should endeavour to become familiar with. It would be ideal to attend either a regional meeting or the EGM in April. Further details are available from their website.

21 Feb 06 - Inter-Services Duathlon: The Inter-Service Duathlon Championships will be held at RAF St Athan on Wed 5 Apr. As this does not clash with our annual tour, we should be sending strong teams. The RAF will be taking 3 teams - Male (12 in team), Over 35 (6 in team) and Female (6 in team). For those not selected, there is also an opportunity to race, as we can also send up to 12 guest athletes. The race is a 5k run, 20k bike, 5k run. Race start is 1300. Accommodation is not available at St Athan; we are currently trying to find alternative accommodation, with priority to be given to those travelling long distances.
Contact - no later than lunchtime on 17 Mar:

Male athletes: Men's Team Manager (John Crewe 95771-8056)

Female athletes: Ladies' Team Manager (Debs Pratley)

Athletes should also state whether accommodation is necessary. The final team selection will be notified by cop 24 Mar, together with an admin order.

18 Feb 06 - Dambuster Entries: Entry forms for the Dambuster are now on www.pacesetterevents.com [or also on our site ]. Remember this is RAF Triathlon's flagship event, being our Olympic Distance Champs and selection race for the Inter-Services Men's Teams. As it's also a BTA World Championship Age Gp Qualifier it'll be extremely popular - last year the race was full early in the year. So make sure you get your entries in ASAP. If you've never done an open water event or Olympic Distance event before, it's ideal, as there'll be loads of support from all the other RAF Triathletes. Everyone would be advised to enter NOW using the entry form, prior to their online entry system going line.

13 Feb 06 - Chester Triathlon Club are holding a ladies only short distance triathlon on 16 Jul 06. It is 750m/16km/5km and costs £29. In addition they are holding one beginners seminar (9 Apr) and 3 training days (21 May, 18 Jun, 9 Jul) in the build up to the race. All the details are on www.chestertri.org.uk. From that link select Royles Deva Diva. It should be a great a event for all ladies and hopefully we'll get a number of RAF Tri girls to attend! [Debz Pratley]

12 Feb 06 - Race Programme: Finalised schedule is now available, subject to approval from the RAF Sports Board.

Note. Coach transport from Cosford to Airport will not be happening.

4 Feb 06 - Urgent Tour News: [from Mark Saggers] Tourists - I am having trouble with undeliverable emails. If you have not received an email from me containing instructions on how to book your bike on the aircraft, please contact me asap on sec raftri.org.uk or mob 07738160964. Also, Brad has looked into getting a coach to take you all
from Cosford to Birmingham airport (and collect when you return). This would enable you to stop at Cosford the night before and leave your cars at Cosford - zero car park fees. The cost is likely to be £20 per person. However, we need a reasonable amount of people to take up this method to make it work. Please let me know asap if you wish to use the coach option.

26 Jan 06 - AGM.  Time is running out if you want to come to the AGM.  Last minute.com names to brad raftri.org.uk asap please.

  26 Jan 06.
A draft 2006 Race Programme is now available.  Comments should be sent to sec raftri.org.uk.  This schedule will be discussed at the forthcoming AGM.

25 Jan 06.  Race Fees 2005.  Before we decide the extent of any refunds for 2005 Race Fees from RAF Tri funds we need you all to check the attached spreadsheet for accuracy.  Nil returns are not required; amendments should be sent to sec raftri.org.uk by 8 Feb 06.

Race Fees 2005

19 Jan 06 - AGM Details. 11 Feb 06, RAF Cosford. Maximum attendance is needed for the AGM. There's plenty to discuss and finalise for what is your association.

19 Jan 06 - New Kit Manager.  Martin Ball will be accepting orders for the 2006 Race Kit at the AGM.  It is hoped to submit this year's order by 28 Feb 06 - you have been warned!  Once again (as long as the AGM agree), the kit will be subidised by 50% for all RAF Tri members.  It is RAF Tri's policy that all members can wear RAF race kit, not just the RAF elite team.  Hyperlinked here are some illustrations of the RAF kit for men and women. The Kit will be supplied in Red, White and Blue with our Sponsors Logos and the words ‘Royal Air Force’ on the Front and Back. An order form will soon be on the web for those not attending the AGM.

19 Jan 06 - RAF Tri gets new Chairman.  The RAF Sports Board have accepted Sqn Ldr Pete Daulby as the new Chairman of Royal Air Force Triathlon.

19 Jan 06 - RAF Championships at Dambuster 2006.   You may have noticed that it was recently announced that the Dambuster will now be a World Championship Qualifier.  Once again RAF Triathlon's Olympic Distance Champs has been hijacked by the BTA.  Of course, the Dambuster is also the selection event for the RAF Teams for the Inter-Service Champs.  As it is now also a WCQ, once entries open they'll go like hot cakes, so keep your eye out on www.transitionsport.com and get your entries in when it opens.  Let's go for another record number of RAF Triathlon entries beating last year's 35.

  12 Jan 06 - AGM Training Weekend. 11 Feb 06, RAF Cosford.

12 Jan 06 - New Polo Shirts.  The new RAF Tri Polo Shirts will be available at the AGM at the subsidised cost of £5*.  Please bring your chequebooks!
