1 Sep 06 - Race Series Feedback. This has been one of the most successful seasons RAFTri has enjoyed in many years, however, we are keen to improve things still further. The RAF Race Series in particular has gone from strength to strength but I am sure that whether a novice or a seasoned athlete there were aspects of the Series that can still be improved to make the races even better. To that end please e-mail me racedirector@raftri.org.uk ,constructive comments or suggestions and I will ensure that the Race Series team factor it in to the planning for next year. The committee needs your input as they are your races to enjoy and develop. Feedback on entry method, cost, number of events, locations, size, organization would all be great. Ta

3 Aug 06 - 2007 Long Distance Tour. There has been a lot of forum traffic on this subject. To clarify matters...

Ironman Nice will be the 2007 RAF Triathlon Long Distance Tour. There will be 12 slots available. Individuals are responsible for entering the event. Once entry has been confirmed contact the RAF Tri Sec and register your intention to attend the tour. Last year there were still places available for IM Nice after Christmas. The financial aspects of the tour will be formulated as planning proceeds. However, funding subsidies should be available for travel. Additionally, individual units should be able to provide personnel with a level of financial support (unit OIC Triathlon Clubs should include entry fees for IM Nice when bidding for funds in October). Please ring the under-worked sec should anyone need further details!

reposted - Race Entry Refunds, 05 Season. The cheques for Race Entries 05 have been sent out but a few addresses were missing and a couple of cheques have been returned. If you think you should have received a race refund for last season and still have not had your cheque, then please e-mail the with your contact details (and copy to the so he can update the database!).

6 Jul 06 - Inter-Services Team: The IS team is now selected but I am still awaiting availability confirmation from Chris M, Steve C, Ed H, Sticky, Dale, Andy Fisher, Dawn Akyildiz, Rebecca Garrett, Scott L, Richard Swallow and Dom Sanderson. In addition, for those whose Service Number and DOB is not below, I do not have it, so please send to me ASAP (Lucy, I just need your DOB).

Finally, we have booked a meal at an Italian in Blandford on the Tuesday night. So that I can arrange meals with the restaurant, I will be sending out menus to you in the next week or so and will need to know what you want to eat. The meal should not cost you anything, but if we overspend the allotted amount, you may need to contribute a small number of pounds sterling! This will be an opportunity for the team to meet up, bond and make the event more of an occasion. Attendance at the meal is part of your commitment to the RAF Team. However, if there are particular reasons why you can't make the meal, please let me know. [TEAM LIST]

4 Jul 06 - Calling Over 60s - The Generation Game: [WM: A message from the BBC - fancy pitting yourself against a team of 16 year olds?]

Dear All,

I wonder if you can help as I am looking for contributors to take part in a new BBC Programme.

We are looking for contributors who would like to take part in a BBC programme. The programme 'The Generation Game' (working title) for BBC ONE is a factual programme aiming to highlight the lifestyles of two different generations, in relation to health, diet, exercise and general health being. The programme will put two teams through fun and exciting challenges, such as swimming, cycling, running, which will test their fitness. The two teams will be six 16years olds and six 60 - 70 year olds who will compete against each other to win the title of the fittest generation.

I will be looking after the 60 - 70years old team members and wondered if you know of any people from this age group who have taken part in the Triathlon and would love to take part in this challenge. We are looking for a variety of people within the 60- 70year old age group, they do not necessarily have to be very fit, as long as they are willing to give it a try and have a challenging streak in them, as it would be a fun event. We are working against a tight schedule and are looking to audition on 14th July and start filming on 25th & 26th July so any help in circulating the attached advert would be much appreciated.

Any questions please do call me on the phone number below. Thank you for your help.

3 Jul 06 - Best RAF Sports Assn: Prize Recipient...

The vote is now complete and the winner is Brad Goggin, our coaching guru. Congratulations.

You may or may not be aware of the prize that RAF Triathlon received at the recent RAF Sports Board Formal Dinner. RAF Triathlon were bestowed the honour of being the best RAF Sports association. We were awarded this prize due to our pro-active approach to our sport, our achievements by our elite triathletes and our committment to grass roots level triathlon. The prize is one week bed and breakfast for 2 at the new sports complex at Paphos in Cyprus. The recipient of the prize will have to report back to the RAF Sports Board to provide details of the complex.

This is a great prize! However, who should receive it! The committee agreed that there were a number of worthy individuals who could recive the prize, but we were mindful that we had to be fair to everyone. Therefore, we are asking the RAF Tri membership to vote for an individual to receive the prize. The following method is to be employed:

  • Each member has one vote.
  • Votes will be collated by RAF Tri Sec by email or telephone.
  • Votes are to be submitted by 31 Jul 06.

In the event of a tie, the names will be put into a 'hat' and drawn at random. Should an individual not wish to receive the prize, the individual with the next highest number of votes will be offered the prize. It is hoped that as many RAF Tri members as possible will take part in this. Any queries, please contact the Sec.
