Training : 2005 : Base Support

REGIONAL TYPES - ALL RELAX.............NOT TOO LONG MIND THERE'S ANOTHER SEASON AROUND THE CORNER!
>
> It has been all change on the Base Support front.  I would like to pass on
> my thanks to Graham Birkenhead, Mick Pullen, Mark Saggers and others for
> their work on setting up the Base Support initiative and providing a
> structure from which we can develop triathlon from station novice grass
> routes right through to the elite team. I have now taken over the
> management of Base Support and delivering triathlon to the regional
> support centres.  At the last committee meeting we reviewed how we had
> done throughout the year and it was agreed to streamline the Base Support
> structure. For 2004 we will focus on one station within each region rather
> than on all the stations- one station pulling all the others in a region
> with it.
>
> REGIONAL SUPPORT CENTRES
>
> The regional centres of support are as follows:
>
> Scotland - RAF Lossiemouth POC Andy Reardon contact
> scotlandrep@raftri.org.uk
>
> North West - RAF Cosford POC Andy Fraser (Also BTA Level 1 Coaching
> contact) west raftri.org.uk
>
> North East- TBN possibly Leeming
>
> South East- RAF Odiham -POC Lindsay Webber
> manager-ladies raftri.org.uk. Until main POC nominated (Brad Goggin
> Level 1 Coaching contact)
>
> South/ South West- RAF Brize Norton- POC TBN
>
> Ladies Rep- Lindsay Webber manager-ladies raftri.org.uk.
>
> Overseas Rep- RAF Akrotiri POC Bev Childs (RAFTN 92319 8435) overseasrep raftri.org.uk
>
> Other Coaching Contacts:  Chris Sturgess (Cosford), Phil McNeil (Cosford),
> Andy Williams (Cosford), Pete Daulby (Yeovilton), Si Bellamy( Abbeywood
> Bristol).  If in doubt speak to the 'coaching daddy' Brad Goggin.
>
> As you will see we are looking for volunteers to be the POC at Leeming,
> Odiham and Brize Norton. If you fancy helping to set up the above stations
> as regional support centres e-mail me at basesupport raftri.org.uk or
> typh-sp1a on the RAFMAIL system.  It is hoped that over the next 2 years
> we will equip each centre with access to qualified coaches (started
> already), training and racing equipment, links with the BTA regional
> support reps and the means to make contact with other RAFTA members for
> training and events. Each station will be the focus of your region for
> information and in time training equipment. It is not going to happen
> overnight but it will happen!
>
> NEW RAF SPRINT RACE SERIES
>
> The Base Support team aims to deliver a series of races next year , not
> just the annual sprint champs at Cosford.  There will be sprint races at
> Cosford (19 May 04), Odiham (16 Jun 04), Brize Norton (either 7 or 14 Jul
> 04) and Lossiemouth (TBN Sep 04).  There will be more details on this at
> the AGM in January.  In the meantime put the dates in your diary and start
> planning your race series for next year beyond Cosford.  It is hoped that
> the availability of an RAF sprint series will provide additional
> opportunities for novices and intermediates to compete throughout the
> year. What additional support do you need to help you compete at your
> level? Let me or any other member of the Base Support team know.
>
> NEXT SEASON RACE PROGRAMME
>
> As always we need your input. The committee are establishing the Sports
> Board endorsed series for next year- if there was a race that you want to
> rave about that was not included this year let us know.  It is likely that
> there will not be regional sanctioned events next year- they will be
> included as part of the overall race programme.  Therefore it is even more
> important to let me know what races you really do want to include.  From
> the responses to myself and Graham Birkenhead over the last season, there
> were a number of very popular regional events and others that were less
> so. Next year promises to be another great season of racing at all levels
> and all distances but if you have an opinion - express it!
>
> .......Finally
>
> Brad has started the process of getting people qualified as BTA triathlon
> coaches.  There are now at least 7 individuals who are qualified level 1
> coaches. If you are unsure of how to take the experiences (good and bad)
> of last season and make next season's training or racing hit your
> objective, whatever that may be, get in touch with them.  They are there
> to assist you!
>
> ........Finally. Finally
>
> We really do need new POCs for Leeming, Brize and Odiham so give me call.
> First one to call gets my old lady shave!
