Cyprus K1 Triathlon
Club – Update

Life in Cyprus has, as I’m sure you must be aware, has been
just a little busy recently with Op Telic tasking and Akrotiri
bursting at the seams with coalition forces. All off-island
leave and courses were cancelled, and although this restriction
has just been lifted, it has prevented us from seriously considering
bringing a team over for the RAF champs.
Notwithstanding the additional workloads that most of us
have had to endure, we as a club have been able to continue
to run our winter duathlon series on the last Sunday of each
month, albeit with lesser numbers. Sunday 27th
April is the last in the series and we hope for some warmer
sunshine soon to warm the sea temperature before our 1st
triathlon race on 11th May. It’s not actually that
cool, but to us "locals" it feels it! There are
plenty of tourists to be seen swimming in the sea.
Outside of triathlon, the club has raised its profile at
the Kolossi and Paphos half and full marathons, with many
club members finishing on the podium as individual winners
and then taking the team trophies too.
Last weekend was billed at the Limassol International Triathlon,
unfortunately they were unable to attract the minimum of 4
representative countries, so removed the international status
of the race, but still continued to organise a first class
event and offered prize money. Mat Stephenson came 2nd
to an Italian in the mens open and earned himself £100, and
I got overtaken in the run but still came 3rd with
£50 in my pocket. Not a bad way to spend Easter Sunday morning!
The RAFTA are about to gain Mat as he leaves here on posting
back to MDHU Peterborough. He is training hard for European
long course at the moment and no doubt will be racing on the
circuit throughout the summer. The rest of us will just have
to stay here, slumming it in the sunshine, swigging brandy
sour and keo and doing the odd bit of training when we feel
like it!
If anyone is coming to Cyprus on holiday or det, and would
like to join us for a race or a bit of warm weather training
– get in touch. We have club bikes to hire for a small fee
and would love to see you.
I am hoping to come over and do Shropshire and Windsor, so
maybe catch up with some of you then, otherwise, keep training
and good luck to all for the forthcoming season.

TIPS: Last few tips for La
Santa 2005
- The weather is going to be fairly hot
so pack appropriately but I should imagine the evenings
will still be a little chilly. Take lots of suntan
cream.
- You don't need to take towels (but
I'm taking one, just in case)
- I (Pete Daulby) will have your tickets
and will aim to be at the airport at 0800 or perhaps earlier.
If you can't find me call me on the mobile no. below.
- Bring spare inner tubes and a puncture
repair kit.
- You are only allowed 20Kg over and
above your bike, so pack heavy stuff in your bike box/bag.
- Think carefully about taking a wetsuit,
it is not essential and it will take a lot of your 20Kg
allowance.

or call me on my mobile 07770 855051.
